I think "leaping learners" is an accurate description for our class as you will almost never see us being still. We like to be passionate about our learning and enjoy the inquisitiveness that abounds in the classroom. We definitely keep our day full and only stop during rest time.
The style of the classroom is a mixture of Montessori and traditional teaching in order to make the most of our days. The framework for the lessons being presented are clearly planned out, but the students determine the paths we use to learn those lessons. I am always amazed at the talent in my classroom and the depth of thinking that goes on among my students.
Our curriculum includes Bible (scripture memorization as well as learning stories from the Bible), Math, Phonics (early reading and spelling skills), Art, Music, Readiness Skills, P.E., Science and creativity building exercises. A weekly newsletter goes home with the students in the class to highlight the lessons, events and activities coming up.
We use 1 Timothy 4:12 as our guiding principle and highlight the idea that no one is too small to behave as leaders. Early integrity and desire to do our best in all things is one way we choose to glorify God daily in our classroom.
